My car will not stay running.?

car runs fine until it gets warm (10-15 minutes) then sputters upon acceleration from idle. It gets worse until car backfires and dies. Will restart and run fine once it cools down. I thought it was a fuel filter problem, but I changed it, and it doesn't seem to help much.
