HW Help!! Please!!!!!?

Probably because some part of the soil was solid and held together strongly whilst others weren't, the slopes have been affected by weathering. Of course the soil couldn't have been like limestone in one area and stone in another (comparing the strength). The slopes are at different angles so some of the slopes could have been protected from excessive rain. There are many other factors like deforestation (cutting trees) which weaken soil, etc
