Landscaping to prevent flooding?

wow that is a mess, have you tried doing what the dutch did a few hundred years ago, to prevent flooding? try putting large mounds of dirt near the point where the water floods in, it may not look pretty, but covering it with some plants and gr can help. sort of try to make a long dirt wall to direct the rain into another low lying area or someone elses yard LOL
