Why does the DNC charter only allow endorsement of a SINGLE candidate for a presidental election?

Having many nominated candidates defeats the purpose of having a Party. And it weakens Party strength. Whichever Party nominates the fewest candidates splits the vote less and wins so BOTH Paries nominate one. That's why there's a Party.
