Can i take a fish tank light to petsmart?

so my dad has bought 2 different lights (fluorescent bulbs) and the first one was to small so he took it back today and got a bigger one that actually fits the light cover but when we got home and plugged it in we noticed its was rattling and wouldn't turn on. so my dad said that tomorrow we'll take the light to petsmart because he doesn't want to keep going back and forth from our house to the store(its like 20 minutes away). so do you think they'll let us test the light out at the store with my light cover.
